"World Oil" reported that Eni announced in Milan that the company had recently obtained an oil discovery in the A-2X prospecting structure located in the license area of Meleiha in the southwestern part of Egypt's west desert. Located about 130 kilometers from the Siwa Oasis, the discovery well is the first exploration well drilled by Eni to explore the deep geological sequence of the Faghur Basin.
The exploration well named SWM A-2 drilled to a total depth of 5090 meters. The discovery of the well drilled an 18-meter-high light crude oil column in the Paleozoic sandstone of the Desseoky formation in the Carboniferous. The discovery well also encountered other oil and gas resources in the sandstone of the Cretaceous Alam El Bueib.
The discovery well has begun production in Dessouky Sandstone, producing 2,300 barrels of light crude oil (32 degrees API) and 400,000 standard cubic feet of associated gas.
